Census 1880
Living with Elhanan and Laura at this time was Emma (1862) at home, who was 19 and was the daughter of Morris Edgar, and two young men who were hired helpers I suppose. Henry Sifert and William Godfrey about 18 yrs of age.
During the same census Edgar W. Roberts (which should be Morris Edgar) and his wife Maryann also list Emma as living with them (I suspect she was at Elhanan's house as a helper and got recorded twice - as it doesn't list her occupation as it does for her siblings. Mary L. (1864)at home Laura E. (1867) at school Susan E. (1871) at school. Since Emma is listed as being 18 here and 19 at Elhanan's it might just have been the time frame.
On a map of 1883, 43 Howard Avenue appears to be a few houses up from Calvary Episcopal church. If Elhanan was a stone dealer it is possible that he provided the stone for this church. On the same map there is a E.H. Roberts living on the corner of Eagle and Steuben Street.

Correspondence from family
UPDATE - Elhanan's mother was Penelope Buell who married Levi Buell when Elhanan was about 10 yrs old.
I have not been able to find out who Elhanan's parents were. I think possibly his mother's nee was Winchester and that she was born in Mass. I found his 1889 obit. which said he was born in New Hartford, but it didn't say who his parents were. The town of Frankfort actually borders New Hartford (I grew up in New Hartford). I believe that back in 1830 where Elhanan is found in Frankfort, Herkimer County, he was actually in what is now New Hartford, Oneida County. From newspaper articles, I think his farm was in the "Slayton's Bush" area of New Hartford. When Elhanan died, my GG grandfather Morris Edgar had the farm. When he died in 1916, he had no sons to pass it to and I think that one of James Irving's sons or grandsons may have taken it over. The name Winchester must have been important to the family, as one of Emma Roberts Copeman's sons was named Frank Winchester Copeman. I show that your GG grandfather, James Irving Robert, had 4 sons: John W., Milton Willard, Charles E. & Dayton B. Which one was the father of your grandfather,Frank Winchester Roberts?

Parents
Amariah Winchester1717 - 1766

however on wiki tree Jabez is not listed as one of his children.
Spouse(s)
Lucretia Pepoon1770 - 1834 - listed as being married in Boston 6 June 1788 (4 sources on family search - 2 with her maiden as Pipoon)
Children
Abigail Winchester 1799 - 1855 born Connecticut
Penelope Winchester 1785 - 1865 born Rhode Island
this certainly looks like Jabez and Lucretia were her parents. and look at that she had a sister when Jabez was 38, he was 24 when Penelope was born but Lucretia and Jabez didn't marry until 1788. And the 1788 seems to be pretty well documented. In fact one document I viewed was original marriage documentation.
if Penelope was married to Thomas Roberts there is a possibly that he was born
